Scent of Sydney
Custom Designed Pieces
As Part of 'The Sydney Festival' 2017 Artist Cat Jones commissioned Studio Enti to create a series of stardust plates and beakers as scent holders in her live exhibition "The Scent of Sydney" held at Carriageworks, Redfern.
An immersive and sensual experience that evokes wonder, memory and history through the intimate experience of sound and scent.
From her website:
In this work, artist Cat Jones distills more than first impressions and seeks to capture the real substance of Sydney, its stories of landscape, democracy, resistance, competition, and extravagance.
Can you really know a city by the way it smells?
Scent of Sydney seeks more than first impressions. It distils the substance of Sydney – its stories of competition, extravagance, landscape, resistance and democracy, through scent.
Conversations with Sydney residents, including you, describe fascinating stories of life in Sydney. Layers of scent within these stories explore the borderlands of physical, personal, cultural and metaphorical relationships between place and identity. Filled with emotions and memories, they document everything from intimate moments in time to migrations.
The themes unravel complex entanglements – competition raising the stakes of extravagance, resistance pulsing in the very heart of democracy, and each of these touching the soul of landscape.
